What items are prohibited on board?

Virgin Voyages' top priority is to create a safe environment for you. Here is a list (super long, but super important) of prohibited items on all Virgin Voyages ships. If a passenger is found with any of these items on board or during boarding, the Virgin Voyages team may deny access to these items, dispose of them, or confiscate them until the end of the trip.


1. Drugs and Illegal Substances
All illegal drugs, controlled substances without prescription, medical marijuana, synthetic marijuana and CBD products are strictly prohibited.

2. Firearms and Weapons
All firearms, ammunition, explosives and incendiary devices are prohibited.
Exception: Law enforcement officers or authorised security personnel on duty within their jurisdiction.

3. Replica Firearms or Ammunition
No replicas or imitations of firearms or ammunition are allowed.

4. Explosives
All explosives, incendiary items and fireworks are forbidden.

5. Flammable Items
Open flames and heating elements are not permitted, except for hair straighteners, curling irons and hairdryers, which are allowed.
Prohibited items include, among others:

  • Candles and incense

  • Extension cords and power strips (subject to inspection and approval by the ship’s electrician)

  • Decorative or festive lights (subject to inspection and approval)

  • Any appliance with a heating element

  • Flammable liquids, fuels, paints or solvents

  • Aerosols (except for personal hygiene products)

  • Large batteries

  • Gas torches

  • Flares

  • Hookahs and water pipes

6. Knives and Sharp Objects
Knives with blades longer than 10 cm are prohibited, as well as other sharp objects (e.g. scissors with blades longer than 10 cm) that could reasonably be used as weapons.
Exception: Personal care items such as metal nail files, cuticle tools, small scissors, nail clippers or manicure kits.

7. Hand and Power Tools
Not permitted, except under a reasonable-use exemption approved by the company.

8. Martial Arts and Self-Defence Items
Any martial arts or self-defence equipment (batons, nunchakus, extendable batons, etc.) is prohibited.

9. Sports and Recreational Equipment
The following items (among others) are not permitted:

  • Baseball or cricket bats

  • Hockey or lacrosse sticks

  • Skateboards, hoverboards and roller skates

  • Surfboards

  • Golf clubs (allowed only if stored in the cabin)

  • Bicycles (only with prior company approval)

  • Scooters, electric or regular (not related to mobility assistance)

  • Drones, model aircraft or similar devices

  • Diving tanks

10. Hazardous or Incapacitating Chemicals
The following are prohibited:

  • Chlorine, ammonia, bleach

  • Insecticides or pesticides

  • Spray paints

  • Tear gas, pepper spray or mace

  • Spillable batteries (except wheelchair batteries)

  • Compressed gas cartridges (only small medical-use bottles allowed: up to 2 may be hand-carried, the rest must be surrendered at boarding)

  • Personal fire extinguishers

  • Any other compressed gas cylinders

  • HAM radios

11. Liquids and Food
Passengers may not bring alcoholic beverages, spirits or beer on board.
Any alcohol found in checked luggage will be confiscated upon embarkation and returned at the end of the voyage.
Each cabin may carry up to two (2) bottles of wine (750 ml each) in hand luggage.
Small quantities of water, soft drinks or alcohol-free beer in cans or cartons are allowed (no glass or plastic bottles).
A small quantity is defined as a maximum of 12 sealed units of 330 ml (12 oz) per person.

12. Coolers and Refrigerators
Permitted only for storing medication or special dietary items authorised by the company.

13. Homemade, Pre-cooked or Perishable Food
Homemade, pre-cooked or perishable foods, as well as opened food containers, are not allowed.

14. Seashells and Coral
Collection or transport of seashells, coral or similar natural items is prohibited.

15. Handcuffs or Restraint Devices
Handcuffs, cable ties or any other type of restraint device are prohibited.

What does my trip include?

Staying hydrated is key to your well-being at sea, so Virgin Voyages includes essential drinks like non-bottled water, unpressed juices, soft drinks, and American coffee on all trips. Also, knowing that Wi-Fi is as vital as water, Virgin Voyages also includes it in your trip. All meals in the restaurants, group fitness classes, and entertainment are also included.

What services do the cabins include?

Virgin Voyages cabins are the perfect refuge at sea and offer epic comfort and style. They include:

- Spacious showers with ambient lighting.

- Smart cabin control.

- 43" 4K HD flat-screen TV with Bluetooth connectivity for mobile devices.

- In-room minibar with ice bucket, bottle opener, and glassware.

- Bathroom amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand soap.

- Hair dryer.

- In-room safe (fits a 17-inch laptop).

- At least 4 North American power outlets (110V) and one European outlet (220V), plus USB ports.

- Open wardrobe.

How many passengers can occupy a cabin?

The number of passengers per cabin depends on the selected type. Generally, occupancy ranges from 1 to 4 people

What is the minimum age to travel?

Each Virgin Voyages trip is an experience created exclusively for adults, and the minimum age to book and sail is 18 years

Can I bring alcohol on board?

Virgin Voyages offers a wide variety of carefully selected beers, wines, and cocktails throughout the ship, but you can bring two (2) 750 ml bottles of wine per cabin in your carry-on luggage (no spirits or beers, please). Please note that alcohol from your checked luggage will be collected before boarding and returned at the end of the trip. You can also bring special spirits from a port of call; just hand them to the security team when boarding, and they will keep them until your last night

Do I need a passport and visa to sail?

Virgin Voyages requires you to have a valid passport with an expiration date of at least six months after the end of the trip. Depending on your country of nationality, some ports may require a visa for entry

How much do I have to pay when making the reservation?

If you book more than 80 days before the departure date, you will have to pay a deposit to guarantee your reservation. Less than 80 days before the cruise date, you must pay the full price of the trip when booking. If you need to change your travel plans up to 45 days before the departure date, you can choose from many departure date options. Check Virgin Voyages' cancellation policy or contact your travel agent for more information.

What is Virgin Voyages' cancellation policy?

DEPOSIT: 200€ per person in categories up to Rockstars; 550€ per person in Rockstars.

FINAL PAYMENT DATE: 75 days prior to departure date.

CANCELLATIONS: No amount paid is refundable.

OPTION PERIOD: As indicated in the reservation document (Base Rate and Lock it in categories do not have an option period).

Conditions valid for reservations made from May 27, 2024, to October 6, 2025:

CHANGE OF TRIP: up to 46 days prior to departure date: it is allowed to change the trip from the original booking to a new trip by transferring the amount paid. The new trip must have a departure date up to 1 year after the start date of the original trip. The new trip will be subject to the price and conditions in effect on the date of booking of the original trip.

NAME CHANGES: any name change is allowed up to 4 days prior to departure date.


LOCK IT IN cabin conditions – GUARANTEED

If the stateroom category is guaranteed Lock it in rate, (IZ - Insider Lock it in rate - Interior; VZ - Sea View Lock it in rate - with Window; TZ - Sea Terrace Lock it in rate - Social with Balcony; RZ - RockStar Lock it in rate - Suite with Bar and Terrace; MZ - Mega RockStar Lock it in rate -Social Suite with Lounge and Terrace) the following conditions apply:

  • Immediate payment at the time of booking.
  • Guaranteed cabin: the cruise line undertakes to assign you a cabin in the category purchased or higher, at any time from confirmation to the day of embarkation.
  • Changes: No changes to dates, categories, or names are permitted. (For Lock it in category reservations made until October 6, 2025: name changes are permitted up to 4 days before the departure date.)
  • Not compatible with any other promotion.

I'm pregnant. Can I still go on my trip?

Congratulations on the future mini-Sailor! To sail safely, you must be less than 24 weeks pregnant at the end of the trip. Please ensure you bring all necessary medical documentation to confirm this condition when you arrive

Can I change the date of my trip?

Reservations made until October 6, 2025: Virgin Voyages offers the possibility to change your travel date up to 45 days before departure, and the new date can be up to 1 year after the original departure date.


Reservations made on or after October 7, 2025: 

  • Inside, Outside, or Balcony staterooms at the Base Rate and Lock It In staterooms: no date changes are permitted.
  • Inside, Outside, or Balcony staterooms at the Essential or Premium Rate and Rockstar and Mega Rockstar staterooms: you may change your travel date up to 45 days prior to departure, and the new date may be up to 1 year after the original departure date.


Can I bring food on board?

With more than 20 delicious dining spaces, there is no need to bring food on board. However, if you have any necessary items or dietary supplements you need to bring, feel free to contact the Sailor Services crew for special authorization

Can we celebrate a special occasion on board?

Of course! Call the Sailor Services crew, and they will do everything possible to make your special occasion unforgettable

What are the casino hours?

The casino is an amazing space that activates throughout the day. Casino games will open approximately 15 minutes after departure, once the ship is in international waters, and will remain open until you decide to end the night, and at least 15 minutes before approaching the port

Can I choose a specific cabin or will one be assigned to me?

Cabin allocation will depend on the category and fare selected.

  • Inside, Outside, Balcony, Rockstar, or Mega Rockstar cabins at the Lock It In fare - the cabin will be allocated up to 2 days before the departure date.
  • Inside, Outside, or Balcony cabins at the Base fare - will be allocated upon booking, but will be subject to change up to 7 days before departure.
  • Inside, Outside, Balcony cabins at Essential or Premium rates - will be assigned upon booking.
  • Rockstar and Mega Rockstar cabins - will be assigned upon booking.

I can't travel. Could someone take my place?

  • If you book a Lock It In (guaranteed) cabin or book an Inside, Outside, or Balcony cabin with a Base Fare, NO name changes can be made to the reservation.
  • If you book an Inside, Outside, or Balcony cabin with an Essential Fare, the names of the 2nd to 4th passengers can be changed up to 4 days before the departure date. The name of the first passenger cannot be changed.
  • If you book an Interior, Exterior, or Balcony stateroom with a Premium Fare, name changes are allowed for all passengers up to 4 days before the departure date.
  • If you book a Rockstar or Mega Rockstar suite, name changes are allowed for all passengers up to 4 days before the departure date.

Can I bring my service animal on the ship?

Of course, a service dog is allowed on board. Service dogs are defined as those individually trained to perform work or tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability. Dogs whose only function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the U.S. Department of Justice and will not be admitted on board. While in public areas, service dogs must be on a leash, harness, or other restraint device. For health reasons, they are not allowed in pools, hot tubs, or spas. The care and supervision of the dog is the sole responsibility of the owner. Virgin Voyages will not provide food or care for the dog and limits one service dog per cabin

What is the benefit of purchasing Bar Tab?

It's worth paying in advance! In addition to reserving money specifically for premium drinks on board, Virgin Voyages adds an additional $50 for every $300 of Bar Tab purchased in advance. So feel free to order that extra drink and enjoy the Shake for Champagne.
